Laboratory for Collaborative Diagnostics

Dr Pennefather and Dr Suhanic gave an invited talk at the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion on May 7,2009 at 10:00AM. The title of the talk was “The BioTIFF/Intercase Project Delivering Annotated, Indexed and Federated Virtual Slides that Support One-Cell/One-Record Solutions”

Drs. Suhanic, Crandall and Pennefather published a paper in Malaria Journal 2009, 8:164 (17 July 2009). The title of the article is: "An informatics model for guiding assembly of telemicrobiology workstations for malaria collaborative diagnostics using commodity products and open-source software".

On May 26, 2009 Dr. Pennefather and Dr. Suhanic presented the talk: "Collaborative Diagnostics and the Intercase: Addressing the One Person One Record Problem". The talked was sponsored by KMDI and was given at the Bahen Centre.

Dr. Suhanic and Dr. Pennefather presented the BioTIFF and Intercase technology at OCE Discovery 09 which was held at the Toronto Convention Centre May 11-12, 2009. In addition to health care applications, opportunities for the technologies where identified in fields as diverse as: truck oil filtration, wind turbine examination, air filtration and medical device safety.

Dr. Peter Pennefather and Dr. West Suhanic presented the SafePillNet concept at the poster session of the 12th Canadian Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences(CSPS) Annual Symposium, June 3-6, 2009, Toronto. The symposium was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Dr. Ian Crandall, the Director of Parasitology for the Laboratory of Collaborative Diagnostics, appeared on IChannel. IChannel is Canada's public and social affairs issues channel. Dr. Crandall appeared on Episode 41 of Season 8: "Pathogens on the Warpath"

Dr. Peter Pennefather, Academic Director of the Laboratory for Collaborative Diagnostics amd Dr. West Suhanic, Executive Director of the Laboratory for Collaborative Diagnostics have contributed a chapter to the recently published book-(June 2008), "Mediating Health Information" edited by C. Nadine Wathen, Sally Wyatt and Roma Harris. Drs. Pennefather and Suhanic contributed chapter 6, "Personalized Narrative Diagnostic Imaging: Can it mediate Patient-System Dialogue?". The book is published by Palgrave Macmillan and its ISBN number is 0-230-20120-2.

Peter Pennefather, the Academic Director of the Laboratory for Collaborative Diagnostics delivered opening remarks to the personal health record workshop at this year's e-Health 2008 Conference which was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on May 4.

The Laboratory for Collaborative Diagnostics was invited to demonstrate its collaborative diagnostic technology at one of Canada's premier innovation and commercialization events, OCE Discovery 08 which was held at the Metro Convention Centre May 12-13, 2008.

The Laboratory for Collaborative Diagnostics was invited to demonstrate its collaborative diagnostic technology to Ontario's Minister of Research and Innovation, Tom Wilkinson, at the recent ORION@5 show. ORION@5 was celebrating ORION's first five years of provisioning Ontario's research institutions with high-speed network connectivity.
